Volunteer at Mission: Wolf

We love hosting volunteers for a day or a week at a time. Mission: Wolf is run entirely by volunteers. Our volunteers bring a great enthusiasm for the work we do, and we wouldn't have it any other way.

Our general rules: if you can find the place, we'll show you around. If you don't scare the wolves or place a burden on the staff, you're welcome to camp out for up to two weeks. It's a magical experience waking up to wolf howls, spending your time doing meaningful work, and watching the sun set over the 14,000-foot peaks in the Sangres. If you want to stay longer, we ask that you read more about working at Mission: Wolf and fill out an application for a minimum commitment of 4 months.

What will I do?

As a remote sustainable village, we require all kinds of work to keep our facilities running. While most visitors end up gardening, weeding, or helping process meat and firewood, we always have need for skilled labor. Let us know if you have experience with woodworking, metalworking, office work, operating chainsaws, or anything else that you think would be helpful.

What should I bring?

We expect short-term volunteers (two weeks or less) to bring their own food and supplies. Make sure you have a rodent-proof place to store your food! (Coolers and plastic tubs work well.) We provide space to set up tents, access to our visitor bathroom (a sink and toilet, no shower), and water for drinking, cooking, and cleaning.

Come prepared to camp in mountain weather. Summer brings warm days and cool nights with potential for thunderstorms in the afternoon. Autumn has mild days and cold nights (our first nights below freezing are in mid-September). The first snows usually fall in early October. By December, winter is in full swing. Winter days are cold and usually sunny. Winter nights can be frigid (-30°F/-34°C) and windy. It's not unusual for us to be snowed in in the winter. Spring-time temperatures are warm during the day and cold at night. Most of our snow falls in March and April.
